We have provided for you a workshop about supervision and issues that occur in supervising trainees, interns and colleagues who may be seeking their Supervision of Supervision certificate.
Session One: Supervision A Collaborative Endeavor. Rita F. Resnick and Liv Esttrup discuss a model of supervision which utilizes multiple lenses. This includes the personality functioning of the therapist, supervisor and client. It also looks at the relationships between client, therapist and supervisor; theories of development; personality, and psychotherapy; clinical theory, diagnosis and treatment. This is a thorough look at supervision, mostly from a gestalt perspective but useful with any model of psychotherapy. After the authors discuss the model, a session takes place and this session is followed by a supervision of the session. This supervision is then commented upon by the second author, Dr. Rita Resnick. A very useful and user friendly model of supervision.
Session Two: Reflecting Group Supervision with Susan Swim. Utilizing collaborative models, Dr. Swim conducts a group supervision within a reflecting team framework. This is a live group supervision and demonstrates this post-modern method of supervision.
LUNCH
Session Three: Developmental Stages of Supervision with Tad Frantz. The developmental stages of supervision was the subject of Dr. Frantz’s doctoral dissertation and is summarized here. Working with a beginning therapist requires a different approach than supervising an experienced therapist. Also, the stage of development of the supervisor will influence how the supervision will be run. An uncomplicated view of the effects of experience on supervision.
Session Four: A Live Supervision Hour with Harlene Anderson. A live supervision which is annotated by Harlene will acquaint the viewer with the process of the collaborative language systems approach to supervision. An excerpt from a follow-up session several months later completes the program.
Session Five: Supervision of Supervision. A live session of Dr. Norma Scarborough supervising an intern. This session is being observed by Dr. Jennifer Andrews, who then meets with Norma to discuss the delightful supervision session.
